Find evidence

Locate, understand, and use external data and evidence

You can view local evidence synthesis in the Reports section and local data in the Data section of this site. This page contains links to external resources with data and evidence related to health and wellbeing. In some cases evidence may not be available within or at a Camden level. In these cases regional, national or international may provide the best available evidence. There is also detail regarding the datasets available internally to Public Health Intelligence which are used in much of the analysis on this site.

Finding data

A number of national and regional resource provide easy to use interfaces for finding data.

Demographics

Geography

  • Postcodes in Camden including Lower Level Super Output Area (LSOA) which links to deprivation

Health

  • OHID Fingertips provides a collection of over 1,000 indicators related to health and wellbeing at Camden, General Practice, and ICB level

  • OHID Local Health provides a subset of metrics from fingertips at lower levels, with the ability to map and create aggregate geographies

  • SHAPE provides mapping of populations and facilities such as hospitals and GPs including the ability to analyse travel times and equity (requires a public sector email).

Wider determinants

  • Index of Multiple Deprivation by LSOA (including Income of Deprivation Affecting Children Index (IDACI) and (Income Deprivation Affecting Older People Index (IDAOPI))

Internal datasets

The Public Health Intelligence team has access to a range of other datasets internally. These include:

  • Hospital Episode Statistics: data on all usage of hospital services including emergency, unplanned, and planned care

  • Deaths: data on deaths locally, including cause

  • Births: data on births locally

  • National Child Measurement Programme: data on heights and weights of children aged 4-5 and 10-11

  • Primary & Community NHS care: data on primary (i.e. General Practice) and Community NHS care

  • Camden Council services: data on use of council services such as child and adult social care, housing, and education

Finding wider evidence

Academic literature

Staff working in public health in local government are able to access many peer-reviewed journals through OpenAthens. Select ‘Public Health Staff in England’ as your organisation. Those in the wider health and care sector may also be eligible for OpenAthens access. Please see the NHS Knowledge and Library Services pages for further details.
